Trans-identified male prisoner accused of threatening violence against female guard and inmate
Gabrielle Alejandro Gentile, 22, a trans-identified man now known as Barbie Kardashian, is accused of threatening to kill, or cause serious harm to a female prison guard and a female inmate while serving a custodial sentence in the women's prison in Limerick, Ireland.
With 15 previous convictions for violent crimes, Kardashian was finally placed in Limerick’s women’s prison in 2023 after being sentenced to five and half years in prison for threatening to torture, rape and murder his mother.
Three years earlier, Kardashian changed his name by deed poll and obtained a Gender Recognition Certificate with a change from male to female, and which Ireland’s Gender Recognition Act 2015 stipulates changes a person’s sex “for all purposes”.
Kardashian is accused of four counts of making three separate threats to kill or cause serious harm to prison officer, Rosin Linnane, and one count of threatening to kill or seriously harm prisoner, Tegan McGhee.
Kardashian has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to all four charges.
Status
The trial was heard over 5 days at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court beginning Monday 21st October 2024, before a jury of seven women and five men.
UPDATE 25/10/24 - Kardashian found not guilty on all counts of threatening to kill prison officer and fellow inmate. The jury took just 2.5 hours to reach their verdict.
