Lisa Keogh, a final year law student, was placed under investigation by Abertay University for specific comments made during a seminar on ‘Gender, Feminism and the Law’. She was subjected to a full investigation by the University and was found not to have breached disciplinary guidance. Lisa Keogh is taking action against Abertay University for breach of the Equality Act; effectively alleging that the ‘process is punishment’.
The matter is proceeding in the Scottish courts. We have attempted to use the correct language to describe the participants, forum and process in this post and in our live tweet stream.
The debate (hearing) on 22 August 2022 is to determine a preliminary plea in a civil matter in the sheriff court. It is considering preliminary pleas from Abertay University for the matter to be repelled (dismissed).
Judgement is not expected for 8 to 10 weeks.
